Today, I enjoyed trying finger steaks, an iconic staple in the state of Idaho. I grabbed a small delicious platter from local dive - Gil's K-Nine Bar on Main Street which was highly recommended by the locals. I was told after much curiosity that they were strips of tender steak (usually top sirloin), battered with a tempura-like batter and deep-fried in oil. Pretty similar to chicken fingers but with cuts of steak.
These platters are typically served with french fries and Texas toast while locals will remind you to ask for the frysauce aka "Idaho crack sauce" which is a ketchup and mayo base blended with secret ingredients or spices to satisfy every "dippers" dream. Both are commonly found in restaurants and bars in Southern Idaho and neighboring states.
