My thoughts: Baltimore is my hometown and the hub for most of my culinary experiences as a kid. However, my journey as a traveler has widened my pallet for food. Today, was another one of those days. Upon exploring Laurel which was founded as a Mill Town in the 19th Century. It is not often that we take the time to recognize the incredible history that our city provides. I will tell you that being home, I plan to experience more of Maryland and its cities as much as I can. We offer so much and have so much but sometimes can be the worst tourists in our own city.
Overall: This leads me to “The Little Chickadee” on 643 Main Street. The area is nice and clean as a new business that to my surprise was also black owned. I was met by Carlton who greets you with a smile (under the mask) and tells you the specials for the day as well as his favorites. He claims breakfast and brunch are extremely popular. Locals favorites include their “fried” shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles or breakfast bowl. I went with the grilled chicken club which was marinated and came with lettuce, tomato, bacon, and cheese all on brioche roll. (cut in half) The club sandwiches are amazing and comes together on a nice lightly toasted bun. The chicken has a nice marinade flavor and is very tender. The sandwich includes a side which I selected the truffle brussels. Which if you are wondering, taste as good as it sounds. It had a light seasoning with virgin oil and lightly “crisp skin” that I could just snack on quite honestly. This is because Maurice who is a foodie and is creative cook behind the scenes. He uses all-natural ingredients with an eye for creative ways to wake up your pallet. I also recommend some of their house made all-natural lemonade which I am drinking as I write (laughs) but seriously, everything here is made with health in mind and vegan options are also available!
