Chili and Cinnamon Rolls a regional dish in Nebraska!

Chili and Cinnamon Rolls has been my favorite dish during my journey!

Region: Midwest

This sweet and savory staple can hold its own and has a unique origins story with a tradition that can be traced back as far as the 1960s in states such as Kansas, Nebraska South Dakota, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, rural Washington, and Wyoming. The dish finds its start as a school hot lunch as the "lunch ladies" would soak the beans while preparing for chili and cinnamon roll day. During my visit to Kansas many Wichitans would describe to me how exciting is was on that special day as a kid.

Throughout the day you would walk by and knew it was going to be a good day but all I'm thinking about is trying to concentrate on class while smelling that heavenly aroma lol Another popular place to find them is church fundraisers and local community events who host Cook-Offs. It may seem like a strange combination but if you enjoy nostalgia and have an appetite for something different then this would be it. In Nebraska there's a local chain "Runza" that offers this combination as a drive thru treat and its just as exciting and delicious.

- How do you eat yours?

1. Eat the cinnamon roll for dessert after finishing your bowl of chili.

2. Tear off sections of the cinnamon roll to dip or use as a scoop for your bowl of chili.

3. Take a bite of chili then alternate with a bite of cinnamon roll and repeat.

4. Eat the top half of the cinnamon roll first, then dunk the bottom half in the chili.

5. A few renegades even admit to putting the cinnamon roll into the bowl first and pouring the chili right over the top of the roll.
